Mosquito creek gets it’s name correctly in the spring and early summer, but as the weather dries up, you can get some fun brook trout fishing in on a creek in Fairplay.  It meets the middle fork of the south platte in Alma and heading up to the mosquito mountain range is not only scenic but good fishing as well.

Standard dries and any well presented flies will find some trout.  make the tough casts last and the easy casts first cause if you get hung up, you’ll spook the hole and miss the fish.  That being said, make the tough cast if no fish show up cause these fish can hug tight to cover and the banks.  They are a lot of fun to catch and if you really challenge yourself and take it seriously, you’ll have a lot of fun.  Often times, we treat high mountain brook trout fishing as the “minor leagues” since they are often easier to catch, but that’s not always the case and if you challenge yourself on casting and approach you’ll become a better angler and you’ll be able to enjoy your adventure completely.
